Gran Canaria tides and wind

Tide times and daylight wind range for the north, east and south coasts. Many Gran Canaria reef breaks are tide-sensitive, so check both before you paddle out.

Wind is taken at one representative spot per coast (La Cicer, Playa del Hombre, Mosca Point). Tide heights are relative to mean sea level from the forecast model.

How wind and tide change the waves

Offshore wind blows from land to sea and grooms the face. Onshore wind makes it choppy. Because Gran Canaria is steep and sheltered by its own mountains, which direction counts as offshore depends on the coast: the north coast wants south-easterly breezes, the east coast wants westerlies, and the south coast wants northerlies.

Shallow reefs such as La Laja behave differently on low and high tide; spot pages list each break's preferred tide.
